Is Hypnosis To Stop Smoking a Scam?

Hypnosis To Stop Smoking

quit smoking hypnosisHypnosis to stop smoking. When you think about hypnosis, how do you view it? So many people view it as a scam and just a way for people to take your money. The truth is that it can really help. Hypnosis to stop smoking really can help you quit, no matter how long you have had the bad habit for or how many times you’ve tried to quit in the past.

What Is Hypnosis

Before you start thinking that hypnosis is a scam, it’s important to understand what hypnosis is exactly. This isn’t medieval techniques or magic. It is a proven way to make you think differently. When you are in your trance, a trained and qualified hypnotherapist will be able to reach into your subconscious and help you change your decisions, thoughts and feelings.

Your subconscious mind is where everything is stored. It is where your habits are rooted and where your feelings are based. It takes time to change the way your subconscious mind things and hypnosis helps to speed up that process.

Change the Way You Think About Smoking

hypnosis to stop smoking Part of the process of hypnosis to quit smoking is to make you change the way that you think about smoking. It could be to reiterate that it is unhealthy to your subconscious mind. However, it can also make you think you don’t enjoy or even like smoking. Why would you do something if you didn’t like it?

You will be asked to imagine how unpleasant smoking is. It could be the bad taste in the mouth, the negative feeling afterwards, such as bad breath and feeling thirsty, or the smell of it around you. It also focuses on caring for your body and protecting it, which emphasises why you shouldn’t smoke.

Doctors Recommend Hypnosis as an Option to Stop Smoking.

Many doctors are now starting to recommend hypnosis for patients who want to stop smoking. This is because it really is based on science and has proven to work. There are certain hypnotherapists with more authority than others, so it is important to check the credentials. If a doctor is suggesting one, there are high chances that he or she is worthwhile.

However, not all doctors recommend this. It isn’t because it is a scam. It is more because there is still a lot unknown about the process. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work. Some doctors recognise it as a method to stop more than other.

Using Other Quit Smoking Methods

hypnosis to stop smokingThe benefit of hypnosis is that it doesn’t involve medications. This means that you can quit smoking using other methods. There is no need to worry about them interacting with each other and you will be able to calm the cravings while focusing on the downsides of the cigarettes, cigars or pipe that you smoke.

Of course, it is just as highly effective on its own. There is no need to spend the extra money on patches, gum and medications if you want to avoid them. The options are just there.

Why Is Hypnosis Viewed as a Scam?

Some find that it works forever after just one session while others find they need ongoing sessions to stop old habits coming through. The brain works in mysterious ways and it’s important to remember that.

The Expense of Hypnosis

hypnosis to stop smoking Many people worry about the cost of stop smoking hypnosis. While it can seem expensive to start with, it is worth thinking about the cost of the habit. Depending on the amount that you smoke, you could save money within two weeks of quitting by paying for the hypnotherapy. It should be considered an investment instead of just another cost.

Some people do need more sessions than others but it will still save you money in the long run. Put the money into a savings account each week and you will soon see how you are benefitting. This just helps the hypnotherapy along in getting you to quit forever.

Would you like to quit smoking? Hypnosis to stop smoking could really help you change the way you think about the habit for the better. It isn’t magic or using practises from the Middle Ages. It could be the thing you need to quit that unhealthy habit.

  • I do wonder about this. There are waaaay too many smokers in the world, period. In my opinion, smokers make bad employees. They constantly go outside to smoke cigarettes while more work can be done at the job.
This is pitiful. This includes those who use electronic cigarettes. Have you thought about doing your own study concerning success rates of those stopping the smoking habit using hypnosis compared to other methods?

I feel like intention really plays a large role in whether or not hypnosis works to change certain behavior. I tried hypnosis for various things (including to quit smoking) but it didn’t really work until I honestly wanted to change my behavior.

You are spot on. You have to want to change. It’s no good if you are only doing something either because someone else has told you to or you feel you have to. You need to decide what is important to you and explore the reasons why you want to stop smoking. For some people it could be because they can no longer afford it and therefore having more money is a big incentive to stop as they can then imagine what else they could be spending their money on or perhaps their health is important to them. Maybe they can no longer play football with their workmates or keep up with their friends at Zumba or take their kids to the park without getting out of breath. Only you can change your behaviour – the therapist helps by guiding you along the path you have decided to take. So next time you decide to go to a hypnotherapist, really think of the outcome – What is important to you? How will it benefit you? Why are you wanting to change the particular behaviour? Set your intention before you go and be willing to accept the changes that can be made through hypnosis. God luck!

Here in the UK an average smoker can now spend £40-£50 a week smoking. I am an ex smoker who managed it on my own but it is hard and I can still be lured by the smell until I remind myself of how sick I feel after I lapse. I literally feel quite sick for a good 24 hours.
I have had friends that have had hypnosis and as with any other hypnosis, it worked for one but not the other friend.

Thank for your comment Sam. Hypnosis is very effective to stop a person smoking if thats what they want and a lot depends on the therapist and their approach. Direct suggestion for example will only work for a small percentage of people. However by combining cognitive and non cognitive processes to create emotional attachment to the goal you can pretty much guarantee a good result. My stop smoking programme offers guaranteed results and deals with the psychological issue surrounding smoking which most other methods don’t address and hence have a high failure rate.

It does befuddle me how people still can’t see the science behind hypnotherapy and see it as some sort of voodoo.
If people are willing to let their subconscious be opened then they can help themselves. I do believe cognitive behaviour therapy is very closely linked with this and both could work well together. Neither will work if the person doesn’t want it to because it is their own mind doing the work.

A few years ago, I tried hypnosis in conjunction with patches and was ultimately able to successfully quit smoking. What I liked about this method, was that there is no need to worry about hypnosis interacting negatively with other methods I was trying.

There are way too many smokers all over the world . The worst part is that they begin to smoke around 15 – 16 or even 14 years old and this will destroy them step by step . I don’t smoke and I think that the most important thing is determination when talking about “stop smoking” . Some of the people who go to a therapist are waiting for miraculous results after a day or two and that is not correct . It is their problem and they should have patience when speaking about this issue .

My doctor actually got me into hypnosis sessions every other week. I’d go in and she’d use hypnosis to help me stop smoking. It worked for a while, but problems in life took over and I stopped feeling good. Then again I wasn’t able to get any more hypnosis treatments because my insurance didn’t cover it, so now I’m back to smoking. I would love to do more hypnosis treatments, because it really did work quite a bit.

I believe it works. I honestly smokes 30 or so years and when I tried hypnosis I slowly and gradually stopped smoking. It was one of the best feelings ever. I never thought I could quit, but hypnosis has helped me so much and I am very thankful for it.

I am willing to give this a serious shot. I’ve been smoking since I was 15 years old, I’m now 49 years old and that’s a long time of smoking all of these years. I hope to truly break my addiction. I’ve tried therapy, even hypnosis back in the day, but the person doing it was rude to me, so it never worked. I even tried e-cigs, but enough is enough. I need to get through this if I want to live another 20-30 years or more.

I’ve met a lot of smokers in my day and I was one in the past. I wish more people would just stop smoking, but for many it’s not easy. I was lucky when I quit and never bothered to try them again, but some people need them to survive, which is sad, because it’s a disgusting addiction to get into.

I should have a serious talk with my parents about their smoking habits. They’ve been smoking forever and I have been trying to get them to stop smoking, but they’re just so stubborn. I just hope I can get them to get hypnotherapy.

I don’t know if it’s a scam or not, because I don’t know if hypnosis works. I wont know until I actually get it done on me. I would gladly try it as I have some problems in my life worth fixing or getting over. And for anything to be a scam, it has to have been disproven by a majority of people.

I know people who’ve stopped smoking because of hypnosis. So I don’t see how it’d be a scam. It’s just changing how one thinks and all that. I really think it could work for those who’re really big on smoking.

To be a scam, it has to be pointed out as one, as in is has to be proven that it doesn’t work. There has been people who have had the luck of hynosis working, but I know for one that it’s hard to quit, even when there is the use of hypnosis.

Another fantastic, thought provoking article. Smoking is an annoying addiction, that I once had myself. Smoking runs rampant in my family too, so I always try to get them to stop smoking, but it’s easier said than done. Maybe I should get them all to try hypnosis.

I completely agree that it’s like an investment to stop smoking. Smoking is a costly habit, not only for your health, but on your wallet as well. Anyways, I think it’s worth a shot for many smokers to at least give it a shot, right?

In my opinion why do people refer to this as scam. The only thing in which this Hypnosis is gonna work is if You are willing to Quit smoking,If that willingness is not there then m afraid you will call this a scam.Studies have shown that subjects who wanted to quit smoking achieved better long-term results using hypnosis therapy than those who quit using nicotine replacement therapy or quit on their own.
In my opinion Hypnosis therapy is effective to stop smoking because the brain takes the suggestions made during hypnosis and translates them into new behaviors and actions. Suggestions that smoking is unhealthy, that the taste of cigarettes is bad, and that the body does not need nicotine are received by the relaxed and subconscious mind during hypnosis. These suggestions help to reprogram the brain and aid in smoking cessations.I have tried this myself and m a non smoker for more than 3 years. It has worked on me thanks to hypnosis it changed my life.
