How NLP for sports works?

NLP For Sports NLP sports psychology is based on the concept of bringing out the peak performance in an individual.   For example, by improving their coordination and mental concentration. NLP for sports utilises the five senses which are auditory, visual, kinesthetic, gustatory and olfactory senses. By utilising these five senses to influence the mind this can help to enhance the performance of the individual.  NLP provides a method where a person can perceive the world around them in a certain way.  Along with the use of sensory-based language it is the best way to influence the human mind.   Also, the use of certain words linked to a certain sensation can give sportspeople that extra edge.  Especially where it involves teamwork and coordination.

How NLP for sports affects the Mind:

NLP sports psychology helps to influence the human mind.   Hence, it manages the internal state of the mind.  The state of mind of the individual is an essential factor in bringing out his or her best performance.  Often the focus is on improving their fitness and technical ability.  Thus, sports performers neglect the mental element, even at world class level

NLP for Sports

NLP gives a coach the authority to stimulate certain states in the player’s mind. Invoking of states can help bring out the best in a player. Coaches generally know their players very well.  Therefore, they have an idea about what is the best way to bring out the peak performance in a player.

The use of NLP has had a significant impact in the area of sports performance. Some of the world’s leading sportspeople have put their success down to using NLP techniques.

Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Andre Agassi, Greg Norman, Jimmy White, Michael Vaughan use NLP techniques.  Without a doubt, they consistently achieve excellent results. alongside other high achieving sports performers.

NLP for Sports

Most sportspeople have experienced times when they are ‘in the zone’.  Namely, when they are performing at their physical and mental best.

When asked to describe this state people often say that they feel as though “time has slowed down”

The ability to access this state and optimise mental skills can mean the difference between winning and losing.
A fighter who has mentally rehearsed his moves in his mind in what we call “trance time”.   He knows how to use NLP techniques to access peak states of lightning speed and explosive power. This enables him to have a distinct advantage over his opponent.

  • Have you ever done a study concerning the success rate for this type of program? I mean actual success/failure percentages. Let’s say that this type of method being used is successful. And, kinesiology and the whole nine yards is used dealing with using an individual’s mind.
If using this method incorrectly or in a bad way, couldn’t an individual harm themselves, their competitor, and others?

My instructor has always told us to “push through” and as someone who trains but has not broken old habits yet, I can agree, it is the mind that gives up before the body. It is the mind that needs to learn to stop telling the body it can’t do something because it lacks motivation.
This sports program would be very good and I bet there would be many a sports pro willing to be a guinea pig for it. My sister has a bachelors in sports science and they were always testing things out on each other at University.

I never knew this was a real thing. It’s great to hear things like this being done to help players get the best out of themselves. I wonder if this can be done to get the best out of more people, not just sports stars.

This is pretty cool to read about. I could use an upstart to get myself back on track with my business and life altogether. Lately I’ve been slacking and failing on occasion and that’s just not goof at all. Thanks for sharing this bit of info.

Enhancing sport performance is done on a one to one basis, face to face or via skype or telephone.

Every person is an individual and might have different things holding them back

Psychology is playing an ever increasing role in the lives of today’s athletes. Mental rehearsal is now an important part in the athlete’s coaching and development. Focussing on his or her ability to access “flow” states and optimise mental skills.

In fact, using NLP and hypnosis the sport performer become more clear about what he was doing, and this helped his performance and stopped holding him back.

The thing is, you can be physically fit, have perfect techniques, be perfectly rested, and still be standing on the mat in the cage and having no idea why you’re there. NLP for sports find a reason for people to be there, and will emotionally work and help them to know in a visceral way why they are there and what they have to do.

However hypnosis also works to override the bad habits as well. WHEN DOING THIS TYPE OF HYPNOTHERAPY WORK YOU COVER ALL THE DIFFERENT ISSUES AND ADD THE GASTIC IN AS WELL, THIS MAKES IT WORK VERY WELL. Interesting practice.

I truly believe the mind can be pushed so far that we as humans push even harder. The mind is a really complex thing and it can withhold so much. We can be trained to without to pain, to keep running when our body simply cannot anymore. It’s kind of how we learn too.

So this essentially is getting fighters and sports stars to go beyond what they can normally take? So if a fighter was near ready to quit, they’d extend their fight even though their mind says to stop, they find something within themselves to push forward is what I am saying. Right? That is pretty cool I will admit. I know I would never be able to do what these sports stars can, even with hypnosis or anything like it.

This is so cool. I wish I could be this cool when it comes to being a sports star. I can truly see this in the mind of an MMA fighter, especially those who break arms and legs in the sport. They seem to take it so well and can sometimes power through the pain. I wish I had that skill. If I get a cut I’d cry like a baby, haha!

  • Winston J.

This is pretty interesting to say the least. I knew sports stars have been known to play through pain and such, and it’s in plain view with those MMA fighters who break bones or get hurt often. Very interesting indeed.

  • Lisa Fen

    June 13, 2014

Wow, I wonder if I could become a sports star now by doing this. I knew sports stars seemed to have a high threshold for pain, and could handle it pretty well. I get a cut and I am in tears for goodness sake. I see these sports stars breaking legs and arms and they don’t cry about it like I would.

It’s crazy at how athletes can take the pain so much. I would never be able to last in a boxing ring or MMA ring with anyone. I’d never be able to play a full on game of Football or Basketball without getting pain in my knee and quitting. It’s something unique to be able to withstand so much because of hypnosis or this nlp.

This NLP sounds very interesting. Would be cool to give it a try, even though I don’t play sports, it would still be interesting to try. Maybe it’ll get me into working out more often.

I wish I knew about this for Track and Basketball back in high school. I have a problem with my knee so I can’t play too long or run too long because of it. Would be really cool to try this NLP training to become better at keeping in control of my mind while playing sports.
